403(b)

What is a 403(b)?

A 403(b) plan is a retirement plan for employees of certain tax-exempt organizations such as school systems, nonprofit hospitals, religious organizations and other tax-exempt employers (known as 501(c)(3) organizations).

Who makes the contributions?

Both employee and employer may make contributions to the 403(b) account through payroll deduction up to the maximum contribution limits pertaining to each shown in the table at the left. Some plans may allow you to make after-tax contributions in the form of ROTH contributions.
